MOTIS Ireland secures sponsorship for Newry Olympic ladies

Newry Olympic Hockey Club has confirmed MOTIS Ireland Ltd as the official sponsor for its ladies’ teams, unveiling new home and away playing kits at the club grounds on Belfast Road on 8 November. The partnership highlights the growing role of corporate sponsorship in supporting grassroots sports and community engagement across Ireland and Europe.

MOTIS Ireland, founded in 2002 and headquartered in Newry, is an international shipping company operating over 500 freight ferry routes and serving more than 6,000 clients throughout Europe. It has additional offices in England, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, and sales representation across Germany, France, and the Benelux region. Its support of Newry Olympic underscores a strategic focus on local community initiatives while reinforcing its brand presence in the European transport and logistics sector.

The sponsorship encompasses not only financial backing but also the provision of new playing kits supplied by local company Playr-Fit, reflecting a collaborative approach to regional business engagement. Both first and second teams showcased the kits during home matches, receiving positive feedback from players and club officials.

Club trustee Willie McCague emphasised the significance of MOTIS Ireland’s involvement, noting that the sponsorship will enhance the club’s development programmes and enable greater support for members. Over the next two years, the partnership is expected to strengthen the club’s capacity to deliver competitive hockey experiences and community-driven initiatives, particularly for the ladies’ section.

The first team recorded a 2-0 victory over Ballynahinch, while the second team faced a 0-5 defeat to Kilkeel in their respective league matches. Despite mixed results, the launch of the new kits and corporate backing sets the stage for increased visibility and professional support for the teams throughout the Ulster Hockey Senior League.
