Sub-Tech Contracts agrees three-year WAAR adventure race sponsorship

Sub-Tech Contracts has agreed a three-year deal as main sponsor of the annual WAAR adventure race in conjunction with CLG Naomh Muire, according to Donegal News.

The Irish construction firm based in the Rosses and Gaoth Dobhair area will support the event where over 500 participants from across Ireland and beyond are expected to run, cycle, hike and kayak through the region on 9 May this year.

Paddy Mc Creery, spokesman for WAAR, expressed sincere thanks to John and Sarah Cannon of Sub-Tech for giving generously back to the local area. He said WAAR is first and foremost a community-driven event bringing people of all ages together to promote health and inclusion while delivering a welcome boost to the local economy and helping to kickstart the tourist season.

CLG Naomh Muire were among the first clubs in Ireland to achieve the GAA's National Healthy Club's initiative in 2016 to 2017. The nationwide programme encourages GAA clubs to focus on the health and wellbeing of members and the wider community beyond the playing field.

JC Gillespie, Naomh Muire club chairman, said these initiatives have had a transformative impact in a small and rural community. "These initiatives have created a place for everyone, ensuring that people of all ages and abilities feel supported and connected," he stated.

Gillespie said WAAR is at the heart of all health and wellbeing efforts at Naomh Muire. "While hundreds take part in the race itself, running, cycling, hiking, and kayaking, hundreds more get involved as volunteers, organisers, and supporters. Many of these volunteers had never been involved in community events before WAAR, making the race a powerful entry point for social inclusion and connection," he noted.

The race marks its eleventh anniversary this year.
