Tattersalls Ireland backs first Hungarian race sponsorship at Kincsem Park in Budapest

Tattersalls Ireland has announced its first sponsorship in Hungarian racing, with the Tattersalls Ireland-Overdose Race set to take place at Kincsem Park in Budapest on 6 September, as reported by Thoroughbred Daily News, as part of one of Hungary's most significant international race days of the season.

The sponsored race is named in honour of Overdose, the legendary Hungarian sprinter regarded as one of the leading sprinters in Europe during his career, giving the partnership immediate resonance with Hungary's thoroughbred racing community.

The announcement marks a new chapter in Tattersalls Ireland's international expansion strategy, with the Irish bloodstock auctioneers leveraging the commercial momentum generated by their Flat sales graduates achieving competitive success across Europe and beyond.

Simon Kerins, CEO of Tattersalls Ireland, said the sponsorship was designed to build awareness and relationships in a market the company sees as an opportunity. "We are delighted to be partnering with Hungarian racing through the Tattersalls Ireland-Overdose Race at Kincsem Park, and we hope this partnership will help introduce Tattersalls Ireland and our graduates to a new racing audience," he said. "We will work closely with Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, using their knowledge and experience of the Hungarian market as we develop these relationships and highlight the opportunities available at Tattersalls Ireland sales."

The involvement of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing as a strategic partner in the arrangement reflects a coordinated approach to developing commercial and trade relationships in central European racing markets, with the state-backed body bringing market knowledge to complement Tattersalls Ireland's sales platform.

Bodorics István, president of the Hungarian Thoroughbred Owners' Association, welcomed the development and placed it in the context of a longer relationship between Hungarian racing and the wider Tattersalls group. "We have been delighted with the support and sponsorship from Tattersalls over the years, and to have Tattersalls Ireland also on board this year is a welcome addition for Hungarian racing," he said. "We look forward to welcoming the Tattersalls Ireland team to Kincsem Park in early September."

Kincsem Park is Hungary's principal thoroughbred racing venue, located in Budapest, and named after Kincsem, the undefeated 19th-century Hungarian mare widely considered one of the greatest racehorses in history. The venue hosts a number of internationally attended race days throughout the season and has been a focal point for efforts to develop Hungary's racing industry within the broader European thoroughbred market.
