Industry NewsTexas Tech renames football stadium Galaxy Stadium in 15-year naming rights deal
Texas Tech Athletics has announced a 15-year naming rights partnership with Galaxy, a US-based global technology and financial services company specialising in data centre infrastructure and digital assets, renaming its Lubbock football home Galaxy Stadium from the 2026 college football season, as reported by Sports Business Journal, in a deal valued at $75 million (approximately €68.5 million).
The agreement averages $5 million annually over its 15-year term and ends the stadium's association with the Jones name, which the venue had carried for nearly 80 years.
The partnership extends beyond stadium naming rights to include NIL opportunities for Texas Tech student-athletes through branded campaigns and original content. Galaxy will also serve as the official data centre and digital assets partner of Texas Tech Athletics, with branding across football and men's and women's basketball through digital, social media and in-game activations.
The agreement was facilitated by Texas Tech Athletics Partners, the local Learfield team that manages the university's multimedia rights and sponsorship agreements.
Kirby Hocutt, director of athletics at Texas Tech, said the partnership connected the university's commercial ambitions to a broader technology strategy. "Texas Tech is committed to being a leader in the state of Texas in the technology and AI space," he said. "We're pleased to welcome Galaxy as the new naming rights partner of our football stadium. When I visit with alumni across the country, the conversation almost always turns to their favourite memories inside our stadium. We look forward to creating many more of those moments together in Galaxy Stadium, one of the premier home-field environments in college football."
Andrew Wheeler, executive vice president of sports properties at Learfield, said the deal represented a shift in how naming rights partnerships are structured. "This collaboration with Galaxy encompasses more than just naming rights, it integrates student-athlete storytelling, enhanced fan experiences, community and campus-wide impact into a truly modern partnership," he said.
The Red Raiders are scheduled to debut Galaxy Stadium when they open the 2026 season against Abilene Christian on 5 September, following the programme's first College Football Playoff appearance.
